ABS Services was proud to support the renovation of Joseph Hall at Xavier University, a facility that houses the university’s School of Education programs, including the Education and Sports Studies Departments, Administration and Faculty Offices, and the Xavier University Montessori Lab used for teacher training.
The project required the complete interior demolition across three floors totaling approximately 32,000 square feet, including removal of CMU walls, ceilings, floor finishes, lighting systems, and mechanical components. While the scope itself was significant, the most challenging aspect of the project was the extremely tight timeline.
Meeting an Aggressive Schedule
With only 92 days to complete the project, it demanded meticulous planning, coordination, and disciplined execution. To maintain critical milestones, ABS Services implemented a two-shift operation running seven days a week, allowing the team to maximize productivity while maintaining control of the work environment.
This accelerated schedule required constant communication between field teams, supervisors, and the general contractor, Integrity Specialty Contractors, to ensure each phase of work progressed smoothly and efficiently.
Planning and Coordination
Success on a fast-paced project depends heavily on preparation. ABS Services focused on detailed pre-task planning, daily coordination meetings, and clear communication across all trades. By aligning work sequences and proactively addressing potential obstacles, the team was able to maintain momentum while protecting the integrity of the building and surrounding areas.
Daily Safety and Housekeeping
Even with the demanding schedule and extended working hours, safety remained the top priority. The project team emphasized daily safety briefings, strict adherence to job site safety protocols, continuous monitoring of work areas, and maintaining organized and clean work spaces through disciplined housekeeping. Strong housekeeping practices ensured safe access routes, minimized hazards, and supported efficient workflow across all three floors of the building.
