In the heart of Cincinnati’s historic Over-the-Rhine neighborhood, ABS Services completed a 5,280-square-foot renovation that transformed an aging structure into the future home of Mikey’s Late Night Slice — a brand known for its energetic atmosphere and late-night pizza culture.
While the building itself was not historically designated, it sits within one of Cincinnati’s most culturally rich districts. During construction, the project revealed connections to Over-the-Rhine’s underground brewing heritage, where networks of tunnels once served as beer storage cellars used by German immigrant brewers in the 1800s. Before refrigeration, these underground spaces maintained naturally cool temperatures and were often located
directly beneath breweries and surrounding buildings.
This hidden history added a unique layer of character to the renovation and reinforced the project’s connection to the neighborhood’s industrial past.
Project Scope
The renovation required a full interior transformation of the existing structure while preserving the building’s footprint and preparing it for modern restaurant operations.
- Complete interior demolition of CMU walls, ceilings, floor finishes, lighting systems, and
mechanical equipment across both the main floor and full basement (5,280 SF). - Saw-cutting and removal of a section of slab-on-deck to create a new stairway opening
connecting the building’s levels. - Selective demolition of deteriorated masonry storefront elements to allow for façade
improvements. - Removal of the existing ballasted roof system to prepare the structure for a new roofing
installation. - Demolition of exterior slab-on-grade at the rear of the building to accommodate a new
outdoor patio space.
